To find out all about the WINPLATE and how it works.

The Whole Body Vibration methodTraining and the benefits of WINPLATEWINPLATE and how it is used

The Whole Body Vibration method

What do we mean by ‘G Force?

The ‘G Force’ states the acceleration generated by the vibration platform in m/s. Clearly, it is the value between vibration frequency and amplitude.
This acceleration represents the amount of work imposed to the user and the term ‘G Force’ allows to quantify this value.

What is the difference between vibration platforms with 1 motor and those with 2 motors?

The number of motors mainly depends on the size of the plate. The large vibration platforms used by professionals need 2 motors to cover surfaces much larger than those used by consumers.
The plate surface of the Winplate doesn’t justify the use of 2 motors.

As a reminder, the motor power is not a guarantee of performance or of quality.

What is a vibration platform used for?

The Winplate platform has several benefits.
It can be used to improve
sport training by working the muscles intensively, increasing blood circulation
in order to relax muscular tension and increasing bone density (the Winplate
increases pressure on the bones and releases key hormones). It can therefore
help to prevent bone degradation and osteoporosis, oxygenate tissue etc. To find
out more, refer to the section: Benefits and how it works.
The effects of the Winplate are comparable with the effects of sport: it is a
form of training!

Can the regeneration hormones produced after whole body vibration be harmful?

No, these hormones are produced naturally by the body. It is a natural process which also occurs during other sporting activities. The advantage of the Winplate stems from the fact that these hormones are released without extreme physical effort.

What are the contra-indications?

- The early stages of postoperative conditions (with implants)
- Epilepsy, diabetes, predisposition to thrombosis, use of blood thinners, spondylosis
- Repeated migraines, tumours
- Hip or knee implants
- Recent wounds resulting from surgery or otherwise
- Pregnancy
- Acute tendon inflammation
- Pacemakers or cardiac stimulators, cardiovascular disease
- (Recently placed) intrauterine contraceptive devices
- Hernias or other back problems, discopathy
- Infection or acute inflammation, if you are ill (flu etc.)
- Severe osteoarthritis

Does the Winplate increase blood circulation locally or throughout the whole body?

Your blood circulation will improve locally, depending on your position, and therefore on the exercise that you are doing.

Why use the Compex Winplate instead of systems proposed by competitors or other training methods?

The vibration platform is a system that gives maximum results when compared with traditional training methods, but in far less time and with relatively little effort.
The Winplate has a seal of quality which guarantees control of the vertical vibrations. It is also possible to view on the screen of the platform the positions recommended to suit your objective or sport.

Can the vibrations be dangerous?

They are not dangerous if you respect the contra-indications.
The aim of the platform is to regulate the positive effects of Whole Body Vibration. The vibrations of the Winplate are regular:
- the amplitude of the vibrations is steady and constant.
- the frequency range used has been tested.
Winplate vibration platforms are designed to ensure the safety and health of the user.

Are there differences between vibration platform exercises and traditional strength training?

Scientific research has proven that training with a vibration platform has similar effect to traditional strength training exercises.
In fact, the positive effects come about earlier, so training on a vibration platform is certainly more effective.

During a traditional training session, around 40% of the muscle fibres are called upon, whilst whole body vibration works almost 100% of the muscle fibres.

It must also be noted that not only muscle tissue reacts. Whole body vibration also produces beneficial effects on tendon tissue, bone tissue, the nervous system and hormonal balance. Do not forget that the heart is the most important muscle.

A piece of advice: although the Winplate works the heart, it is recommended to undertake cardiac training too.

What is Whole Body Vibration?

It ensures perfectly controlled vertical vibrations, and consequently, optimal muscular contractions.

Who can use a vibration platform?

Anyone who is allowed to do sport can use the Winplate after consulting the contra-indications.
The Winplate can even be used by the elderly, people with disabilities or those undergoing physiotherapy.

What are the contra-indications?
- The early stages of postoperative conditions (with implants)
- Epilepsy, diabetes, predisposition to thrombosis, use of blood thinners, spondylosis
- Repeated migraines, tumours
- Hip or knee implants
- Recent wounds resulting from surgery or otherwise
- Pregnancy
- Acute tendon inflammation
- Pacemakers or cardiac stimulators, cardiovascular disease
- (Recently placed) intrauterine contraceptive devices
- Hernias or other back problems, discopathy
- Infection or acute inflammation, if you are ill (flu etc.)
- Severe osteoarthritis

How does the vibration platform cause the muscles to contract automatically and intensely?

Each muscle can perceive and record the smallest of changes in its own length through receptors. The vertical vibrations trigger a muscular stretch which is perceived by the receptors, resulting in a reflex contraction in the muscle in question, and causing the antagonist muscle, i.e. the opposite muscle, to relax.

Your body reacts to the force generated by acceleration and not by additional mass. This force is far stronger than traditional stimulation caused by training, quite simply because the stimulation is repeated between 30 and 40 times.

How does a vibration platform work?
Whole body vibration is a way of bringing about very powerful muscular contractions.

Vibration platforms operate according to the principle of whole body vibration. Whole body vibration is a method whereby three-dimensional mechanical vibrations, whose main vector is vertical, are transmitted to the body via the vibration platform. On the Winplate, it is possible to set the frequency of the vibrations (= number of movements per second) between 30 and 40 Hz.

The mechanical stimulus produces a muscle stretch reflex immediately followed by contractions. This means that the muscles react to the vibrations by automatically contracting and relaxing.

Although this may vary from one person to another, frequencies of around 30 Hz and higher trigger very intense muscular contractions that are extremely effective. Lower frequencies are used primarily to relax and to help improve blood circulation.

How can I compare the quality of different vibration platforms?

This is a difficult question because it depends on a number of different factors. The quality depends on the vibrations, the sound emitted by the device, its stability, durability and the level of user comfort, as well as the motors that generate the vibrations and other factors.
A bottom-of-the-range vibration platform will, at best, provide a massaging effect. A vibration platform must be robust enough to generate powerful and regular vibrations when you are on it.

Training and the benefits of WINPLATE

What are the effects of the Winplate on osteoarthritis?

The main advantage of the Winplate for people with osteoarthritis is that the exercises do not cause any trauma. This is not always the case for traditional muscle training exercises, especially when it comes to lifting weights. People suffering from osteoarthritis should always train on the Winplate under medical supervision and build up the exercises slowly and gradually. An example: you could start by doing a light calf exercise for 30 seconds. Wait 24 hours and do the same exercise twice with a good rest period between each of them.

What are the effects of the Winplate on cellulite?

The Winplate increases subcutaneous microcirculation. A person who trains on the Winplate will also burn more fat and will improve their muscle tone. The skin is tight and appears softer.

Can I switch my whole fitness regime to a Winplate programme?

We do not recommend this. The Winplate is an amazing, multi-functional training tool, but stamina is only obtained when combined with cardiac training.

Does the Winplate increase suppleness?

For general suppleness, doing one single stretching exercise for each group of muscles on the Winplate is sufficient to maintain muscle length. You will achieve a very good result by remaining in each position for between 30 and 90 seconds. For this choose a moderate training frequency.
When you start a series of stretching and suppleness exercises, safety must always take priority. Listen to your body: if a position causes pain in a joint or puts strain on a group of muscles other than the ones intended, change the exercise and ask for advice.

Can the Winplate help to prevent osteoporosis?

Yes! Bone density depends on 4 factors: genetics, diet, vertical tension and hormones. The Winplate increases pressure on the bones and releases key hormones. It therefore has the potential to prevent bone degradation and osteoporosis. Remember that osteoporosis is a disease. A BMD under 70mg/ml is an absolute contra-indication.

WINPLATE and how it is used

If I combine the Winplate with cardiac training, should I start with a Winplate session?

It is better to start with the Winplate session. You will then be warmed up for your cardiac training session. The hormones secreted in your body after the Winplate session will help you to train more effectively. After your cardiac training, you can use the Winplate for your relaxation exercises!

Can I use the Winplate in bare feet?

Of course! It is even more effective and intense because the soles of the shoes absorb some of the vibrations. However, many people find it more comfortable to train with their shoes on because of the absorbing and stabilising effect.

Why do I sometimes get a slight headache after a training session?

Some people experience a slight headache after the initial training sessions. This is often caused by an incorrect position on the vibration platform. Your body is supposed to absorb the vibrations. If you feel that your head is vibrating during the exercise, try to change your position slightly until you find the correct one, and look straight ahead. Remember to eat and drink a little before each session too.

Are the exercises that I do using the straps effective?

Most of the exercises that use the straps are clearly more demanding. It is important to keep the straps tight and not to move during the exercise. It is also recommended to increase the amplitude to improve the results.

Is the ″high″ mode more difficult and more effective?

With Whole Body Vibration, 4 sets of parameters must be taken into account: the frequency, amplitude, duration of the exercise, and the posture. The amplitude of the vibrations must be increased gradually. A training session with a higher amplitude means that the muscles are working more intensely. Training with a high amplitude must not be overused. Listen to your body!

I have a prosthesis. Do I need to be particularly careful?

Yes. We recommend that you consult a specialist to be sure that the exercises are suitable for you. The specialists may recommend that you use a vibration platform, but it will depend entirely on the type and location of the prosthesis.

I am very fit. Can I start at a higher level?

We recommend starting gently for the first session, even for fit people. Get used to the machine and the sensations that it produces. Learn how to maintain the correct positions, because they are essential for the training to be effective.
It is more intense that you think!

How many times a week can I use the Winplate?

The only actual limit is common sense. The Winplate is a serious machine. Use it intelligently. As a general rule, use the Winplate once a week for enjoyment, twice for training purposes and three times for serious training!
To obtain visible results, you should use it for an average of ten minutes a day, three days a week for a month.
